Open Space

Gloucester, Salem, Cumberland and Cape May Counties and 15 towns in the Bayshore region have adopted an Open Space Tax to help preserve their agricultural, historic and environmentally sensitive lands.

Open Space can be used for passive or active recreation. Green Acres helps to achieve this through land acquisition and Planning Incentive Grants. The Green Acres mission is: “To achieve, in partnership with others, a system of interconnected open spaces, whose protection will preserve and enhance New Jersey’s natural environment and its historic, scenic, and recreational resources for public use and enjoyment.”
